Transit New Zealand - Business critical monitoring
Transit takes advantage of Fronde's investment in industrial strength monitoring tools to gain affordable, effective monitoring of a business-critical system.
"The whole system was implemented with ease, and communication between our engineers and the Fronde engineers was excellent."
Para Ganesan, IT Operations Manager, Transit New Zealand
Client
Transit New Zealand is responsible for providing a safe and efficient state highway system throughout New Zealand. Transit held business-critical roading information, including which roads are closed, congested or under repair, in the Road Information Database (TRID).
Challenge
Transit New Zealand asked Fronde to develop an enterprise management service capable of monitoring its road information database (TRID) and ensuring:
- The system was functioning correctly
- Information about the system’s status and usage was constantly available
- An engineering resource was available 24/7 to rectify system malfunctions before they become serious.
Solution
- Fronde offered Transit the opportunity to take advantage of its significant investment in industrial strength monitoring tools by ‘leasing’ its BMC Enterprise Monitor (BEM) and BPM software environment.
- The approach allowed Transit to achieve an appropriate and affordable level of monitoring, by sharing a Fronde tool rather than investing in a one off solution.
- BPM uses a secure port to monitor Transit's infrastructure and generating alerts when it spots a problem.
- The system generates two levels of alerts depending on the severity of the issue. Critical problems trigger an alert at Fronde where engineers are on standby.
- Transit has total online visibility of the application through a web portal.
Business benefits
- Fronde delivered an affordable, industrial strength solution that allowed Transit to monitor its business-critical information system .
- The monitoring system not only generates alerts where necessary but also provided information and trending data that indicated areas for improvement. This information has enabled Transit to identify areas in need of upgrade and assisted business planning.
