Fronde's Michal Hempel speaks at BA World Symposium

29 July 2008

Michal Hempel, Usability and Web Design Consultant at Fronde, speaks at the BA World Symposum in Wellington on July 28th and 29th. The topic: "Delivering Easy to Use Applications – Tools and Techniques for Business Analysts".

“The application must be easy to use” is a mandatory requirement in every business requirements document out there.  Unfortunately this statement has become but a placeholder with little or no meaning to business stakeholders. This talk aims to quantify and explain what “easy to use” means. Business Analysts will be introduced to simple usability concepts, tools and techniques which will enable them to ensure that their project’s output is indeed “easy to use” and user friendly. The subjects discussed include basic and “budget” usability techniques, user centred design and requirement gathering techniques, fundamentals of user experience design and practical tips on usable interface design.

  • Introduction to usability techniques & user experience design
  • User centred activities in  business requirements gathering process
  • Making smart design decisions and being able to justify them
  • What makes interfaces easy to use: user research, presentation, simplicity, communication
  • Usability in an Agile environment

Michal is a highly skilled web specialist with 12 years' international experience in the areas of web design and usability, and web application design and management. He has been involved in determining and developing strategies and best practice for web, desktop and mobile applications across a variety of industries.
